What Are the Top 10 Dating Websites?
There are more online dating websites than you can shake a stick at. So many people have trouble finding partners the old-fashioned way, meeting someone online seems as normal now as trolling the local bars. To narrow down your search for good singles websites, here are the top ten dating websites ranked by popularity.
Begging you to “discover the PerfectMatch difference today”, this mega popular site runs on something called the Duet Total compatibility System to match potential mates. With dozens of different “categories” of advice for singles, and the endorsement of celebs like Dr. Phil, PerfectMatch.com has plenty going for it.
The slogan is “New ways to get matched + The freedom to search = MORE SUCCESS,” and Match.com’s recent affiliation with Yahoo should do just that for people who used to belong to Yahoo Personals or Match.com. Yahoo’s Match.com site features a massive number of singles looking for dates online.
The oldest dating service online, Matchmaker started their services off the Web back in 1986. Typical online service here — the only big difference between Matchmaker and other sites is the inclusion of “essays” along with the standard questionnaire.
Easily the most advertised dating service, eHarmony bases their matches on the “29 dimensions of a relationship.” eHarmony famously got in trouble for not allowing gays and lesbians to find matches on eHarmony.com, so they were ordered to create a Gay and Lesbian dating site, CompatiblePartners.com.
Run by eHarmony, this gay and lesbian dating site appeared online courtesy of a court order. The name of the game here is “long term, same sex partnerships.”
Lava Life is called “the most active” dating community for people seeking casual dates. There’s no hint of anything “long term” here, just single people hoping to find a hookup. (See this LavaLife review for more information.)
Match.com made a name for themselves when it was announced that in the year 2005, Match.com was responsible for 250,000 dates. Reportedly, more marriages have come out of Match.com than any other dating website, making it the go-to spot for people looking to get married.
The slogan here is: “Live. Love. True love could be right around the corner.” What’s special about True.com is the criminal background check. Believe it or not, True.com compares their members to huge national databases of criminal records, so any match you find at True.com should be safe.
Boasting “over two million users”, America’s Internet Dating is the little dating website that could. Featuring simple profiles and an easy-to-navigate interface, America’s Internet Dating looks primed to become one of the top 5 most popular American dating sites over the next two or three years.
This is a combination online dating website and social networking community, the aim of which is to connect like-minded people for friendship or love. FriendFinder.com’s reputation is moe along the lines of “hook-up” than “long term committed relationship.”
But what is a lonely person to do when they have questions about dating? Thankfully, the Internet is there to offer a helping hand. There’s plenty of dating advice to be found online — here are our ten favorite sources.
Author Evan Marc Katz offers one of the most interesting and regularly updated dating advice blogs on the Web. Katz doesn’t give you the usual “press release” style dating news, choosing to give advice to readers of his blog on a wide variety of topics using real life lessons.
With topics like “Famous Gold Diggers” and “How to Find A Young Girlfriend”, DatingOnline.org isn’t going to make any fans among feminists. Still, the fun works both ways, as there is plenty of irreverent material on dating for women as well. A good read for some advice and a chuckle or two.
So many of us are parents looking for love — the same goes for blogger Rachel Sarah. Single Mom Seeking has a very active group of regular blog readers, along with a blend of personal posts and dating how-to articles.
The “City” in the name is New York City — blogger and NYC native Simone Grant offers us a dating blog from a Manhattan perspective, describing her own dating adventures and interspersing this with ruminations on being single.
Run by Chemistry.com, this plain little blog is based on an ingenious idea — a single question is tackled by a handful of very different dating experts.
Two girl geeks, both dating pros, offer advice to their male geek counterparts. Beyond just giving advice, these two will actually write your dating profile to make it more alluring.
Another great concept in online dating chatter — Mark Brooks focuses on the business of online dating, discussing stories that affect people who regularly use dating sites and personals. A good read for singles as well as marketers looking to attract singles to their products.
8. Kiss & Blog
The tagline is “Sexual politics and self-indulgence”, and that’s just what you get at this well-written and thought provoking blog. The material here’s on the brainier side of things, and in no way is that bad news.
A huge collection of rather random articles topics that focus on meeting and getting to know other people.
This is another “one stop shop” for relationship questions, ideas for unique dates, style and fashion advice, and pretty much anything related to the single life.

How to Be Affectionate
Let’s take a good look at the word “affectionate”. The strangely poetic dictionary definition says that it means simply “displaying warmth” or “displaying affection”. The fact that the verb “display” is built into the definition tells us a lot — simply having warm feelings is not enough to create affectionate feelings, you need to actually act on them.
A relationship without affection is hardly a relationship at all. Affection is the thing that separates a close friend from a lover or romantic partner, and making displays of that affection is so key to keeping a relationship afloat that many couples get by on their affection alone.
Being affectionate doesn’t mean constantly smothering your partner with touching and kissing. For the most part, the most important displays of affection are small and meaningful as opposed to grandiose and flashy. Both women and men say that “cuddling” is the most important form of affection. That’s probably because the simple act of holding your partner in your arms conveys warmth and love without too much energy. Watching television and holding hands is the simplest form of this kind of affection — not every method of displaying your affectionate feelings is so simple, but it is often the simply displays of love that mean the most.
Here are seven ways to start showing the affection you naturally feel for your partner.
Perfectmatch.com – The best approach to find the one.
Seven Ways to Be Affectionate — with a Guy, a Girl, a Husband, a Wife, a Boyfriend, or a Girlfriend
You might have come here because you’re a shy girl and you want to know how to be more affectionate with a guy. Or you might be a husband who’s wife is complaining that he’s not affection enough, so you searched for “how to be affection to your wife.” Whether you’re a boyfriend or a girlfriend, a husband or a wife, these tips for being more affectionate should help.
1. Be affectionate all the time.
This means that displaying your affection is not just a task for intimate moments. The next time your partner is cooking, washing the dishes, or doing some other chore, you can display affection on the small scale by walking up behind them and wrapping your arms around their waist or kissing the back of their neck. This shows that you care about them even when they’re doing busy work and is the perfect way to thank your lover for doing a chore. Talking to your partner, telling that person you love them, is important all day long and not just when you’re “in the mood”.
2. Make it a point to touch your partner.
I know, I know — we just said that being affectionate isn’t about constantly touching your partner. Then again, small moments of touching spread throughout the day (and regardless of circumstances) proves that you are truly affectionate and not just going through the motions. A simple and quick touch on your partner’s shoulder or waist, or even a thing as small as a kiss on the cheek can work wonders in your partnership. Think about the ways you like to be touched and share them with your partner — consider these kinds of touches “educational”. When you make it a habit to touch your partner, you create intimacy in even the most chaotic of times.
3. Snuggle together on the couch.
After a long day at work, many couples retire in front of a movie or the television. This is the perfect time to share affection, though many people miss out on it simply because they don’t think about it. Holding hands, touching your lover’s hair, and kissing during commercials (so you don’t miss a minute of your favorite show) will go a long way toward proving to your partner that you care. It is easy to get caught up in sexual touching and overlook the kind of soft, romantic touching that lovers need to maintain their romance and reassure each other of their love.
4. Take walks together.
Not only is taking a walk good for your body and your mind, it can be the perfect time to display affection. Even though your partner may never tell you so, display of affection in front of other people may be really important. It communicates to your lover that you want everyone to know how you feel about each other, and more often than not the two of you may solve other relationship problems while taking a slow stroll through your neighborhood. Holding hands during a walk is a pain-free way to communicate your love to your significant other.
5. Greet your partner with affection.
There’s nothing better than coming home to the one you love. The next time your partner comes in the door from work, greet them with a big hug and kiss or another showy affectionate gesture. Work is stressful, and if you don’t greet your partner this way sometimes that stress invades your home and your relationship. The best antidote to stress is touch and affection — before you do anything else when you walk in the door or when your partner walks in, announce how happy you are that he or she is home and start getting affectionate right away.
6. Try functional affection.
Not all affection is random or simply out of kindness. Some forms of affection are functional in that they actually get something done. The simple act of giving a back rub or a neck rub is a very functional way to show warmth and help your partner. Brushing your lover’s hair can be as intimate as any action you can take, and it does serve a purpose — women especially tend to love to have their hair brushed. It is soothing and is good for their hair. If your partner is really dreading a specific chore, taking that chore over and doing it for them every now and then is another way to show warmth without even touching.
7. Be concerned about your level of affection.
You’ve already got this step covered. Simply being worried about sharing affection with your partner shows that you want this relationship to work and are willing to go to great (or small) lengths to get the job done. Talk to your lover about what kind of affectionate touch they like or need, and share your own feelings on the subject.
Showing affection is easy and you can take just a few minutes out of your day to share it with your lover. There are few simpler things you can do to pump life back into your relationship. Whether you’re looking to ignite a spark that has gone out or to extend your romantic life into the everyday activities you and your partner share, displaying affection is vital to promoting happiness between you and your lover.

How to Attract Men
Attracting men isn’t rocket science. Men are led around by their genitals, too oversexed to pay attention to much else.
The old stereotype about men that says they are mostly ogres who like tits and ass isn’t far off the mark. Men have obsessions with physical beauty, sports, and beer. So what are men attracted to? How can women attract men?
1. Be Good in Bed
Let’s face it–men and women both want to have good sex. Women want capable and attentive lovers just as much as (or maybe more than) men.
Before you go assuming that being “good in bed” means basically being a man’s sexual slave, remember that men have a soft and sensual side as well. Not all men want to get in bed with porn stars.
Just like women, men want a sexual partner who is willing to share physical affection but isn’t physically intimidating to him. Case in point–we all know women who are just too gorgeous to pick up men. Some women are too intensely beautiful or their beauty is such that they are basically unapproachable to men.
This is because men assume that bombshell types are difficult to please in bed and are therefore not a good physical match. After all, men want to please and not just be pleased.
So how can you use this to your advantage? Consider your usual look–maybe it is time to dress more casually. Men are just as attracted to a T-shirt and jeans as they are to a strapless gown. In fact, some men will be more attracted to a casual type than a Barbie in a dress.
Another way to use a man’s sexual mind to attract him–give him a little bit of physical attention. We’re talking about subtle touching and body language to suggest physical intimacy: touch his arm with your hand, let your legs brush his, or put your hand in his hair. The point of this playful “sexual” touching is to put yourself in his mind–planting a seed, if you will.
Don’t be intimidated by the stereotype that says that men want nothing more than a romp in the hay–use it against him instead.
2. Look Healthy
You don’t have to look any one way to attract men. Truly, there is no single physical ideal of beauty, no perfect standard or waist size that attracts men. Men like bodies of all sizes and types.
You may have heard the old “70% ratio” of waist size to hips rule, nearly impossible to fulfill and pretty much made up by some old sociologist. Then there’s the false of idea of “perfect facial symmetry”, which is ridiculous considering that perfect symmetry just doesn’t exist in humans. No, more important than looking perfect is looking healthy. There’s no need to force yourself to look like a beauty queen–men find health, good hygiene, and vibrance more attractive than waist to hip ratio.
Women stand out to men for all kinds of reasons, maybe a man likes a particular hair color, or a certain type of smile or look. Just like women, men are either attracted to a woman or they’re not. THe best way to make sure a man is attracted to you is to stay healthy by eating right, exercising, and doing those little things that keep our body looking healthy and happy.
Whether or not a man is physically attracted to you is not under your own control. Let’s not forget that keeping our bodies healthy and happy are good for reasons besides attracting men. Eating right and getting cardio exercise keeps us healthy and happy and lengthens our lives. Generally, a healthy body is a happy one, leading to good mental health as well as good physical health.
3. Be Trustworthy
I know, “trust” isn’t usually at the top of the list of things men are attracted to. Men aren’t as simple as women think they are, and men need a woman they can trust as much as a woman needs a man the same way.
When we say “trust”, we don’t just mean that a man needs to know you won’t lie to him. Trust here means that a man can depend on you for some of his personal emotional needs. We all need a sense of trust before we can open up and share with people on a serious personal level.
If you’re friends with a man and over time he’s come to realize that you listen to him and really help him with the ups and downs of life, he is far more likely to develop an attraction to you. Men (and women) need a sense of trust between them before they can develop together emotionally.
When men feel a lack of trust, they don’t necessarily break off a relationship, and it is this kind of pairing that can be really toxic to love and to a person’s life. A man is perfectly capable of having a sexual relationship with a woman he can’t trust as long as she’s providing his sexual release–but since he can’t trust her, he won’t be able to feel anything deep for you.
Yep, you guessed it. This is how some women become little more than “booty calls”–women useful for sex but not for much else. If a guy can’t trust you or connect with you on that deep level necessary to develop love, he will only think of you as a sexual object.
4. Have a Sense of Humor
The dreaded “sense of humor”–that elusive thing that we can’t quite put our fingers on. Do men really look for it in women?
Absolutely. Men are as driven by humor as women are. Both partners in a good relationship know how to laugh and know how to have fun. Having a good sense of humor spills over into other areas of your life as well. Women who laugh and smile are generally seen as more attractive than women who are deadly serious.
Humor is a good icebreaker, so developing a good sense of humor can make it easier to meet men. Humor can also be used to defuse difficult dating or interpersonal situations. If you’re on a date that isn’t going so well and you can make the man across the table from you laugh, the two of you can spin a bad date into a good experience.
When you develop a long-term relationship with a man, your sense of humor becomes more important than ever. A good joke or a laugh shared between the two of you can turn a minor squabble into a big nothing, and can keep a bad mood from turning into a huge fight. Why is humor so important?
Things that are funny make us feel relaxed and demonstrate that relaxation to the people around us. Humor is basically a way of showing a man that you are interested without using any physical cues. Men want a woman with a sense of humor for the same reason that women want it in men–funny things keep our moods light and can even spark romantic passsion. Laughter is a great aphrodisiac (on top of being “the best medicine”) and men find your sense of humor, your cute laugh, and your ability to be goofy extremely sexy.
Of course, no two men are alike. You may have to blend your own mix of attractive qualities (a little more beauty, a little less trust, etc) depending on the man you’re trying to attract.
In general, some combination of the above traits will make you more attractive to men. When you think about it, the above four qualities (health, trust, sense of humor, and good sex) are all things that most women want, too.
What Is an Eternity Ring?
The ring, a continuous circle, has been a symbol of friendship and relationships for thousands of years. The first people to make and wear rings were the ancient Egyptians. All rings, in effect, could be called ‘eternity’ rings, but as will be discussed later in this article, an eternity ring, because of its unique construction, is a special category of ring. Comprised of an uninterrupted circle of metal, often encrusted with precious stones, rings have long been a symbol of eternal love and friendship. The round, unbroken circle of an eternity ring meant then, and continues to mean, that two people are binding themselves into a relationship that cannot be broken, and with precious stones set completely or partially around the unbroken circle, they also symbolize the great value of the relationship.
In ancient marriage ceremonies, the ring symbolized the relationship on a number of levels. The unbroken circle symbolized permanence and eternity. The precious metal from which the ring was forged was a symbol of strength and durability, and the precious gems set into the metal symbolized the value placed in the relationship; the more valuable the stone, the more valuable attached to the relationship.
There are a number of types of rings which people exchange to mark various ceremonies:
• Wedding or engagement rings
• Friendship rings
• Eternity rings
Eternity rings, like more traditional rings, can be used for weddings, engagements, and as symbols of friendship. In addition, they are used to mark special occasions.
History and symbology of the ring
The practice of bride and groom exchanging rings to mark the marriage was used in ancient Rome, but is in fact probably much older. The rings were not only a symbol of ‘eternal’ love but were used to symbolize the earnest money, or exchange of valuables that went along with the ceremony. In fact, because marriage in ancient Rome and medieval Europe was often more a financial contract between families than love between a man and a woman, the ring was more a symbol of the exchange of value than eternal love and affection. Rings were also used in ancient Celtic wedding ceremonies, and in these cases, they did symbolize the more or less ‘eternal’ nature of the relationship, or ‘forever and a day.’
The custom is usually for the man to give a ring to the woman upon the betrothal or engagement, and for the couple to exchange rings at the actual wedding ceremony. The wedding ring is worn on the right hand because this is the hand that is usually used for taking oaths, and wearing the ring on that hand ties it to the oaths taken during the marriage ceremony.
Friendship rings are often exchanged between people who want a symbol of the enduring nature of their relationship even though they might be separated by physical distance. While men and boys sometimes exchange friendship rings, this is primarily a custom of women and girls. Parents will sometimes give friendship rings to their children just before they leave home. This is a practice that dates from biblical times. Even though the bonds between parent and child are considered unbreakable, rings were exchanged as a potent symbol of the eternal nature of that relationship.
In addition to the familiar types of rings, such as engagement and wedding rings, eternity rings, sometimes called ‘dress’ wedding rings, are increasingly popular. They are also known as diamond infinity rings and diamond bands because of the way they are constructed.
The construction of eternity rings often make them look like a circle of precious stones – most often diamonds. This unbroken circle of gemstones symbolizes the unending, eternal love between two people. Quite often eternity rings are purchased to mark special or significant milestones in a couple’s relationship, such as a child’s birth, or a significant anniversary.
Eternity rings are basically a simple design; even-sized gemstones nestled together, either the full circumference of the ring, or half. Eternity rings with gems around the full band must be individually sized and cannot be resized, making the half bands more popular. The advantage of the full band is that when it is rotated on the finger, the stones are always in view.
The stones in an eternity ring must be nestled close together, making round or compact shaped gems the most popular choices. Full rings require not only compact shapes, but the stones also cannot be overly large.
The most popular gemstone for eternity rings is, of course, the diamond. But, rubies, sapphires, tanzanite and emeralds are also used, often alternating around the band with diamonds. Almost any stone can be used, however, to add unique symbolism to the particular ring.
Many women currently chose to substitute an eternity ring for either their wedding band or engagement ring. Depending upon the size of the stones in an eternity ring, even though individually they’re often smaller than the diamond in an engagement ring, their total carat value is often higher. When all the rings are relatively slender, some women also chose to wear an eternity ring along with the other two, taking care that the setting of the eternity ring is compatible with the others and the prongs holding the stones in place do not scratch the other rings.
Prices for eternity rings vary widely, from several hundred to several thousand dollars depending upon a number of factors.
The first financial consideration is the metal from which the band is forged. The costs of white or yellow gold, platinum, or titanium vary widely depending on world market conditions.
The size and quality of the stones has a major impact on the overall price of the ring. Diamonds are the most expensive of gemstones, with prices that vary depending upon the quality of the stone, color, presence or absence of flaws, and the cut. Other stones, such as emerald and jade, will also vary in price based on color and flaws.
The size and number of stones in an eternity ring will also impact the price. Full rings, because they must be custom made, are often significantly more expensive than a similar number of carats in a half ring.
To ensure you get value for your money, only buy an eternity ring from a reputable store, whether it’s an independent retailer or a chain store. Consulting a licensed gemologist is a wise course of action when selecting the stones for your ring. An eternity ring symbolizes the eternal nature of your relationship, obtaining the advice of an expert to ensure the highest quality will yield you a symbol that will endure.

Why Do Flowers Shops Deliver?
Flower shops deliver because the easiest way for flower shops to get their product into their customers’ hands is to deliver the flowers themselves. Flower shops do decent foot traffic selling bouquets and single-stem flowers for people on the go, but their biggest business comes from flower delivery.
Why Do People Have Flowers Delivered?
There are any number of occasions for flower delivery — any event you want to punctuate or celebrate in a special way is the right opportunity for a delivery of flowers. Any time a friend or loved one is in the hospital, flowers are a nice choice. They say “I love you, I’m thinking about you, and I want you to get better” and at the same time come with a beautiful gift that a sick person can look at and feel better. Births, illness, surgery, and even deaths are the right time to have flowers delivered.
Not all flower deliveries are so morbid. Happy times call for flowers too. Having flowers delivered immediately before a date is a classy way to make a good impression. Flowers aren’t just for women — men like flowers, too, so ladies you aren’t off the hook here. Flower delivery is also a good way to say “Congratulations!’ on the birth of a baby, a graduation, a new job, or any happy occasion.
Flower delivery works for just about any occasion, as long as you explain to the florist what the situation is — flowers for a funeral are specific and usually very different from flowers you’d send to a new bride.
How Does Flower Shop Delivery Work?
Local flower delivery works about like you think — place an order with a local florist and they’ll get the product you want delivered at the time you want via a delivery truck or van. When you want to send flowers elsewhere in the country (or even elsewhere in the world) things get a bit more complex.
Florists belong to nationwide or even worldwide networks of florists that work together to get flower deliveries out to customers. If I walk into a florist where I live in New Jersey and ask for a flower delivery to my parent’s home in Texas, for instance, my local florist will send the order to my parent’s local florist that’s on the same network as my local florist. The local florist will handle the delivery — my florist deals with me and my money and it all works out nice and neat in the end.
If florists refused to deliver flowers and required their customers to walk in and buy the flowers they want to send and deliver them on their own, it isn’t likely that people would choose that florist for future business.
Flower shops deliver flowers because it is the most convenient way for their customers to send flowers. In some ways it would be easier for florists to deal only with “in-store” business, but that isn’t what customers want. We want to send flowers anonymously, or send them via delivery because it just seems “more special” that way. In short, flower shops deliver because flower delivery is what the customer wants.
What Is Internet Dating?
People have used mass media as a dating resource since well before the days of the Personal ads in the newspaper. There are reports of grafitti on the walls of ancient Greek cities advertising a lover’s prowess or particular romantic style. It is no surprise that the Internet is full of ways to make “new friends” and create potential romantic hookups.
Internet dating is what it sounds like — a way to meet people using the Internet.
Why Try Internet Dating? How to Start Dating Online
With Internet dating you can “meet” people before you make a commitment to see them in person. People who use Internet dating often “talk” using email or chat long before they meet each other in person. This way, you can decide how long you want to talk to someone and how well you want to get to know them. This makes it easy to weed out creeps or people you know you won’t get along with.
People who are hesitant to meet strangers, or people that are on the shy side, swear by Internet dating as a way of avoiding the pitfalls of early dating that usually make them afraid. Unlike the bar scene, Internet dating moves at your own pace, and you control all of the unknown factors, like your outward appearance (your “dating profile”) and the time that you meet someone.
Another advantage is that you can meet people from all over the country (or all over the world) and from all walks of life using Internet dating. If you are interested in meeting people from a specific religion or people who have a specific job or interest, an Internet dating site already exists for that purpose.
How Do I Start Internet Dating?
The first thing to do is to come up with an idea for your dating profile.
A typical dating profile will showcase your hobbies and interests, your hopes for your future, basic facts about your life, and (most importantly) what you are looking for in a date. The choices you make about your profile beyond those basic categories are your own. If you’re rich and want to show off, you can include how much money you make. If you are drop-dead gorgeous and know that’s your best quality, you can include pictures of yourself. Whatever you think it will take to hook a hot date, go for it.
About the photographs — understand that most people engaging in Internet dating will want to see a photo of you before they agree to a date. It is a fact of life — people are shallow. You don’t have to add a photograph to your profile, but most dating sites will tell you that profiles that include a photo are exponentially more popular, and more likely to lead to successful dates.
In case you’re worried about money — don’t fret. Most Internet dating sites are affordable (they can cost anywhere from a few bucks to an amount similar to your monthly power bill) and most of the time you’ll just pay a one-time registration fee. One way these sites “hook you” is allowing you to see other user’s profiles for free but charging a fee if you want to contact them for a potential date. Be prepared to pay with a credit card, check card, or some other online payment method.
Internet Dating Dangers and Scams
You could say that all dating includes dangers–creeps are everywhere looking to exploit other people. And just like with traditional dating, there are a few things to be wary of when considering Internet dating. Obviously, the person you have been talking to may not turn out like advertised. Some people will change their appearance, lie about their personal details, or go to any length to secure a date. There’s plenty of cheating going on at dating sites, and the single surgeon with a new Porsche you’ve been chatting to could turn out to be a married dockworker with a bus pass.
The best way to avoid Internet dating scams is to keep your head on your shoulders. Avoid giving out your home phone or cellphone number to a person that you don’t trust, and certainly don’t tell anyone your address unless you’re willing for that person to show up unannounced. If you do decide to meet someone you met through Internet dating, try to schedule a first date in a public place. These simple tips could keep you from being scammed, lied to, or harmed. Just as with regular life, Internet dating requires some common sense.
Internet dating is no fad — there are thousands of websites designed to help you meet your new partner. The popularity of Internet dating confirms the fact that some people are building solid relationships based on friendships they’ve formed on the Internet. You never know where your next online chat could lead.
