Many people are naturally low in vitamin D, forcing vitamin D levels up by taking supplements can only do harm. If you think you can improve yor health by conforming to the advice of Holick or - God forbid - that of Hollis, Cannel &amp; Co at the vitamin D &#039;Council&#039; who recommend (&gt;50ng/ml) then you are in for an unpleasant surprise.

		<description>If you are overweight (BMI &gt;24) it is impossible to raise to your serum vitamin D to the 40-60 ng/ml that recent research indicates is necessary for a wide range of disease prevention.  

It is impossible because body fat absorbs vitamin D and makes it unavailable.  Vitamin D is fat soluble and fat is where it gets stuck.

Sensible sun exposure with no sunscreen and never burning is a reasonable approach.  In winter the experts reccomend 75iu/kg/d.
That is 75iu of vitamin D per kilogram of body weight, daily.</description>
