Flat Belly Diet
The Flat Belly Diet is a diet promoted by Prevention magazine. It promises to help you lose 15 pounds in your first month on the diet. Basically, you eat 1600 calories a day on a Mediterrenean style diet, and you limit your intake of red meat to once a month. A Mediterrenean style diet focus on whole grains and vegetables. Fruits, nuts, and seeds are also important foods in any Mediterrenean style diet.
The Flat Belly Diet encourages the addition of a monounsaturated fat to every meal. Some examples of foods rich in monounsaturated fats include:
- Dark chocolate
You eat four meals a day on the Flat Belly Diet, and instead of counting calories, you choose from a menu of meals that are 400 calories each.
Is the Flat Belly Diet a Good Diet? Does the Flat Belly Diet Work?
The Flat Belly Diet calls for plenty of fruits and vegetables, which is healthy enough.
The Flat Belly Diet also calls for plenty of water, in the form of their “Sassy Water” recipe, and that’s healthy enough too.
The Flat Belly Diet calls for 4 meals a day, spaced out every 4 hours, and each meal is 400 calories. Nothing unhealthy about that either, unless you’re someone who NEEDS more than 1600 calories a day. Most people probably don’t.
The Flat Belly Diet calls for plenty of monounsaturated fats. There’s lots of evidence that these kinds of fat are good for your health too.
Looking at all of these factors, it’s probably pretty safe to say that the Flat Belly Diet is a good diet. At 1600 calories a day, it’s also probably safe to say that the Flat Belly Diet works. Almost anyone will lose weight steadily on a 1600 calorie a day diet. I’m a big man, and I’ll consistently lose weight on 2500 calories a day, frankly.
But I’m not sure you need an entire book to implement this diet. Calculating a menu of 400 calorie meals and then eating 4 of those per day every day seems like something tha would be pretty easy to do on your own.
