What Are Some Fast Diets That Really Work And Are Safe?

Everyone is always looking for that fast way to lose weight. You may have a class reunion in a week, a family outing at the beach, or you may just not have a lot of free time and may be in a hurry. There are a lot of fad diets over the years that have claimed to be the best and fastest way to lose weight. The problem with most of them is that they provide only short term results. You might lose a remarkable 10 pounds in a week but you end up putting it all back on right after that. The problem is that the diets are too restrictive and too hard to follow over a long period. What is the point of a diet if you can’t use it to keep the weight off?

The problem with fast diets is there are few that work reliably and are completely safe. Anytime you try to drop any amount of weight in a quick fashion it has its risk. Fortunately there are some fast diets that do work reliably as long as you are careful with them and do not go overboard. Each one has advantages and disadvantages and you will certainly have to follow the plan closely. So what are some fast diets that really work and are safe? Below is the list.

Scarsdale Diet

The Scarsdale Medical Diet was created back in 1970. It is a strict two-week diet that is low-calorie and very inflexible. It must be followed exactly as per the plan with no room for changes or interpretation. The Scarsdale Diet is restrictive in its calorie intake. The plan is set up with a ratio base of 43 percent protein, 22.5 percent fat and 34.5 percent carbohydrates.  Studies done on the diet have shown that people who follow the plan to the letter have lost up to 20 pounds in a two week period.

While on the Scarsdale Diet, you can only consume what is on the meal plan. The restrictions are heavy. You cannot snack on anything other than carrots, celery, and vegetable broth. You can only drink water, tea, coffee (no cream, fast-dietsno sugar), diet sodas, and sugar-free drinks. No alcoholic beverages are allowed. Salads are okay but the dressings that you can use are limited. You may only use lemon, vinegar, or a few other Scarsdale approved dressings. You can eat all the vegetables you want and all the meat you eat must be lean. You cannot have any butter, margarine, or fats. The plan calls for this: breakfast is half of a grapefruit, one slice of bread and plain coffee or tea. That is it and that is all you can have every morning for two weeks. For lunch you can eat cold cuts, tuna salad, tomatoes, grapefruit, and coffee. For dinner you can have sliced roast lamb, a salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and celery and coffee. Or as an alternative you can have fish, a combination salad, one slice of bread and coffee.

You may only stay on the diet for two weeks at a time. You must take a break every two weeks in order to let your metabolism rest.  You have to stick with it for it to work but work it does. However, there are some disadvantages with the Scarsdale Diet. The plan suggests the use of artificial sweeteners and herbal appetite suppressants. One of the problems with the diet is that with all the coffee intake, you don’t get enough water and thus are at risk for kidney damage.

Hollywood Diet

There are some fad diets that have lasted because of either their image in the media or because of their results. In the case of the Hollywood Diet, it is a little bit of both. The Hollywood Diet has a simple plan. Basically, you stop eating for 48 hours and just drink a nutrient-rich drink to get all the essential vitamins and minerals you need to survive. It is pretty much a liquid diet that uses the Hollywood trademark for popularity. According to the plan, you can have water, but no caffeine, no alcohol, no food, and no smoking. The Hollywood Diet plan goes like this. You are drining an 8 ounce drink that made up of 4 ounces of water and 4 ounces of the juice. You then slowly sip the drink over a four hour period (all these fours make it easy to remember).  By slowly sipping it, you can keep the hunger pains at bay. This is done four times a day for two days. After you drink 4 ounces of the mixed juice drink  you have to drink 8 ounces of pure water. So altogether, you are taking in 16 ounces of the juice drink plus around 80 ounces of water. There is an official diet drink that you can buy in a bottle. It contains water, fructose, green tea, and juices such as pineapple, orange, apple, prune, white grape, and lemon. If you want to save some money (it is just liquid, right?), you can find recipes online for homemade drink versions.  It is made up of soy milk, orange and cranberry juices, yogurt, wheat germ oil, and flaxseed oil.

The Hollywood Diet acts as a great cleanser for your body. By not taking in any food for two days, you can get rid of a lot of waste that has built up and allow your system to rest. You are getting plenty of hydration with the Hollywood diet which helps the body eliminate stored toxins and metabolize fat. The diet is also best suited for quick weight loss buy only in small amounts. You are not going to drop 15 pounds in two days but if you are just trying to fit into that old dress, it can help you out.

The problems with the Hollywood diet, and any liquid diet for that matter, is that you are only taking in around 400 calories a day. That is low for anybody and can have some health risks. It is not recommended that anyone follow the plan for more than two days or to repeat it frequently.

Organic Vegetable Diet

The organic diet is a very simple and natural diet plan that may not work as fast as the plans mentioned above but is much safer and reliable. An organic food diet is the consumption of fruits and vegetables that have been grown without the aid of chemical fertilizers, growth hormones, and pesticides. There is no meat involved and all of your protein intake comes from beans such as lima and pinto. You can also eat whole grains such as bran and oats, nuts, seeds, some pasta, and fat-free yogurt. The advantage of the organic diet is that it is not extremely restrictive and much easier to follow. You also get all of the vitamins, minerlas, and nutrients that are essential  every day. There are no toxins going into your body that you might get from conventional foods that have been exposed to chemicals and synthetics. The disadvantages of an organic vegetarian diet is that you have to be sure to eat a variety of foods to make sure that you get a variety of nutrients. Not all foods have the same vitamins and minerals. You also have to be careful that you get enough protein which is essential in cell replacement, healthy muscles, and prevention of diseases.
