By now everyone knows that green tea has some wonderful healthy properties. Because of the way it is processed, it still contains its natural anti-oxidants. These anti-oxidants are crucial in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It promotes weight loss, an increased immune system, and natural long life.
One of the more important abilities of anti-oxidants is the ability to break down molecules called free radicals. These molecules are created through our diet when our bodies convert food into energy. These molecules can cause damage to our cells and DNA.
The problem with green tea is that there are so many products out there to choose from. Which ones are the best? In the seas of green tea products, here are a few you should definitely try out.
Wu-Yi Green Tea
Green Tea Extreme
This product is pitched as a good weight loss method. It comes in a capsule form that contains green tea and other ingredients. The other ingredients listed are guarana extract, caffeine, and citrus aurantium. Citrus aurantium contains synephrine, a chemical that acts similar to the stimulant Ephedra. The product has been proven to lead to weight loss but it is not known exactly how much green tea in included in the capsule.
Tzu The is a brand of green tea that is produced with the highest standards. The name comes from the French word the, which means tea, and Tzu, which means love. It has one of the highest levels of EGCG of any other green tea on the market. Plus, it has a decent flavor. Most green teas, despite the health benefits, have a bitter taste. Tzu The makes it more convenient by producing small grab-and-go infusers and green tea nutrition bars.
Japanese Green Teas
There are a number of good green teas that come out of Japan. Buty when choosing a Japanese tea, there are three that you should look out for: gyokuro, matcha, and sencha.
Gyokuro is one of Japan’s finer teas and is grown in the shade instead of the full sun. By behing harvested in the sdhade, it causes the leaves to have higher concentrations of amino acids and caffeine. It is made from a variety of bushes such as asahi, okumidori, and yamakai. The infusion of the tea is a light green in color and it has a sweet flavor.
Matcha is a Japanese green tea that is powdered instead of dried in leaf form. Like Gyokuro, it is grown in the shade and is actually used to dye and flavor a number of Japanese food products. Matcha is more expensive than other types of Japanese green teas. There are many grades of Matcha depending on how the tea is processed and handled.
Sencha is the most common of Japanese green teas. Instead of ground tea, it comes in a dried leaf form. When the leaves are cultivated, they are steamed for 15 to 30 seconds to preserve the anti-oxidants. They are then rolled and dried. Because of the steaming, sencha has a more ‘vegetable’ flavor that traditional Chinese teas.
Green Tea Skin Care
Besides coming in a drinkable tea form, green tea also comes in a skin cream product that you can apply as a mask to your face (or other parts of your body). The green tea creams contain small amounts of EGCG which is beneficial to a healthy skin. The anti-oxidants are carried into your skin through oils and extracts.
Green tea skin cream can be used for a variety of purposes such as acne, dry skin, or to help prevent signs of aging. In gradients to look out for depend on what you want the cream to do. For acne, look for green tea creams with tea tree or white willow.
For dry or irritated skin, look for products that contain aloe vera or calendula.
For a smooth, younger-looking skin, look for the ingredient pomegranate extract which provides additional anti-oxidants.
What you need to know though is that these creams may contain other ingredients which may not be as beneficial to your skin. One thing you should do is read the label before buying the product. Some to look out for are parabens which are preservatives. These are to give the creams a longer shelf life but may also turn toxic over time.
Benzoyl peroxide is another ingredient to be careful of. It is added to help treat acne but if you have dry skin, it could make it worse.
Mineral oil is also an ingredient to avoid. Although many creams and skin care products use oils, mineral oil actually clogs your pores and prevents your skin from ‘breathing’.
