How Do You Make Your Blog More Interesting?

These days just about everyone, from your neighbor across the street to your sweet Aunt Pearl, has a blog. They can post about all sorts of subjects from the weird to the completely mundane. There are really too many blogs, to be honest. People can’t possibly keep up with too many of them. It is like trying to carry on a hundred conversations at once. So if you have a blog and you want people to read it, what do you do? You have to make your blog interesting. But again, with so many blogs to choose from, and a lot of them are interesting (maybe even your Aunt Pearl’s), how do you make your blog more interesting so that the traffic that comes through will come back again?

Making Your Blog More Intersting Tips

There are a lot of methods you can use to make your blog more interesting, or “sticky”. If you are using your blog as a revenue-earning business, you want to get as much traffic coming through as possible. If your blog isn’t interesting, people will not stay at your site very long and they won’t come back. If you already have a blog or are considering starting one, here are some tips on how to make your blog more interesting.

Have A Bold And Unique Design

When designing the look of your blog, you need something unique, eye-catching, and bold. You don’t want to go too simple or rip off someone else’s design. Plus, it is a crowded market out there. There are thousands of new blogs appearing online every day. By being different, you will attract more notice. You should also make everything about the design relate to what the blog is about. This is referred to as “branding”. Everything from colors to layout to font style should all correspond to your brand. If the design doesn’t go together very well, your site will end up looking awkward.

Try To Have More Than One Page

Most blogs are only one long page. This is boring and limits the number of articles you can display. To make your blog more interesting, create links to your previous posts, most popular posts, comments, “About Me” page, and forums (if you have them).  By having these sections interlinked, you can keep readers on your blog longer as they switch back and forth reading different material.

Have A Section For Comments Or A Forum

You shouldn’t have a blog just to hear yourself talk. You need reader interaction. You can accomplish this by creating an option for readers to leave comments at the end of your posts. This gives you an opportunity to get some feedback on your writing and subject matter. Depending on the feedback, you can then judge whether your posts need any additional work to increase viewers. For instance, if everyone leaves comments that you are an idiot and don’t know what you are talking about, it is time to re-evaluate your posts.

Other than a section for comments, you can also have a forum for your readers so they can discuss relevant topics to your brand. You can divide your forum up into many different subcategories to give readers more options. Whether you put in a comments section, a forum, or both, interact and respond to comments as much as possible. This will let the readers feel that they have a more personal involvement in your blog.

Post As Often As Possible

If you have a blog, you should try to post as often as possible. Some of the blogs that have a huge number of readers post at least once a day and even several times a day. At the least, you should post something new a couple of times a day to keep readers interested. New posts draw in repeat readers. If you don’t post regularly, then readers will become discouraged and quit visiting your blog.

Offer A Newsletter

There are some tools you can use to create a blog newsletter to send out to your readers. Newsletters are a great way to keep your readers informed about new posts and new goings-on in your blog. By receiving a newsletter, it keeps attention on your blog and helps to increase the likelihood that these readers will come back to visit.

Think SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means that when you create a blog and post articles, you do it in a way to draw in as much traffic from search engines such as Google and Yahoo. How you do this is when writing your posts, you want to use keywords and phrases that will be more likely to show up in search engine crawlers. You can use tools such as highlighting, underlining, using bold fonts for specific words, and such. But when you do this, do it in a way that is relevant to what you are writing. If you use too many keywords or phrases, you will get a lot more hits on the search engine results but your blog material will suffer.

Interact With Other Blogs

Having a strong online presence will likely increase your number of readers. The more people that know you will mean the more people will visit your blog. You can accomplish this by visiting other blogs and leaving comments and posting on their forums. If you become a regular at other sites, you can gain a bit of notoriety. Then you can link to your site and draw in some more traffic.

Have A Guest Over To Blog

Similar to the option above but in reverse. Occasionally have a guest blogger come in and post a few articles. If the guest is another well established blogger, he will have his own audience of readers that will visit your site just to read what he has to say.

The Little Extras

There are a number of little extra bells and whistles you can add to make your blog more interesting. You can add things like photos, audio clips, and streaming video clips. You can post tutorials, post comments that answers reader questions, do interviews with people that relates to your brand, and even invite some of your readers to post articles.
