Recently, a reader with a 15-year-old daughter wrote in and asked, “What are some good movies for teenage girls?”. While my teenage days are far behind me (unfortunately), I consulted with some teens and young adults I know and came up with the following
teen girl movie list that should satisfy even the most picky teenage moviegoer.

Emma by Jane Austen, revolves around a clueless Beverly Hills teenager and her equally shallow friends. Clueless is loaded with recognizable faces, including Brittany Murphy, Stacey Dash, Jeremy Sisto, Paul Rudd, Alisha Silverstone and Breckin Meyer. Everyone learns a valuable lesson in the end, and teenage girls will enjoy the depictions of the various high school cliques.
The Princess Diaries (2001) – Based on the novel by the same name, this chick flick boasts some real star power with Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore and Julie Andrews. When a poor and unpopular girl learns that she’s a crown princess, her life drastically changes (but not all for the better). If your teenager girl enjoys this film, be sure to rent the sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
Not Another Teen Movie (2001) – A parody of teen movies such as
10 Things I Hate About You,
Road Trip and
She’s All That, this hilarious comedy stars Chris Evans, Jaime Pressly, Mia Kirshner and Lacey Chabert. It even goes so far as to use the fictional John Hughes High as the setting for the action. If your teenage girls likes the
Scary Movie franchise, then suggest that she give this one a try.

When Josie (Barrymore) goes undercover at a high school in order to write a newspaper article, her own traumatic school days come back to haunt her. A sweet film about how superficial and cruel teenagers can be. Your teenage girl might learn a valuable lesson from watching this one.
