Who Is Electrolux?

If you’ve ever shopped around for a major appliance you’ve probably come across Electrolux products. Like many folks out there, you may have never heard of this brand and assumed that because of that it was no good. Well, you would be mistaken! Electrolux is no Johnny-come-lately cheap knock-off. This brand has been around for years and can hang with the big dogs in the appliance market. Let’s take a look at where they came from and how they got to where they are today.

Inception

It all began back in 1918 when Swedish companies Svenska Elektron AB (a sales company) and Lux AB (a kerosene lamp maker) signed a cooperative agreement. It was not until a year later, however, that Elektromekaniska (a subsidiary of Svenska Elektron AB) changed its name to Elektrolux (then Electrolux decades later). It began by selling Lux vacuum cleaners across Europe.

Unprecedented Growth

Who Is Electrolux?

The company did well in the following decades, mostly by selling quality vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, food service equipment, and dishwashers in post-war Europe during a time of prosperity and technological ingenuity. The company continued to expand and during the 1960s alone acquired:

  • Norwegian Elektra
  • ElektroHelios
  • Danish Atlas
  • Flymo
  • Finnish Slev

Such mergers and acquisitions continued in the decades hence, and Electrolux even owned Husqvarna for a time. Much of the growth during this time can be attributed to the vision of President and then Chairman of the Board Hans Werthen.

These days, in fact, there are a lot of products out there that you may not even realize come from Electrolux because they bear the name of one of the company’s subsidiaries. Names like Westinghouse, White-Westinghouse, Tappan, Frigidaire, Eurreka, Atlas, Beam, Gibson, and Kelvinator all fall under the Electrolux banner. With so many different names under their Umbrella (and that is an incomplete list), it’s no wonder that many people get confused with the Electrolux name. On the other hand, this vast number of companies producing great products is what has led to Electrolux’s success.

But it is when you are shopping for some of the brand new Electrolux front-loading washing machines and dryers on the market these days that you will come across the Electrolux name. A lot of people want to simply gravitate to the GE and LG washers and dryers, and those names are great too, but Electrolux is just as good. The brand doesn’t have quite the same recognition in the US as it does in Europe, but it hasn’t gotten to where it is for so long by making shoddy products. Electrolux’s washers and dryers are some of the best on the market and have all the new features that you are looking for in a modern appliance, like Internet connectivity and memory functions.

So if you are in the market for a new washer/dryer set, take the time to look into Electrolux. Don’t pass them by whatever you do, as you may be making a great mistake. Their appliances are just as good or better than the next brand, so it behooves you to give them a chance.
